“Renato Fenocchio, farmer in Neive”.
We spent a lovely afternoon walking around the cru Cottà with Milva, Renato’s wife, who shared with us her knowledge and her core values. Among the first to understand what natural farming really means (possibly too far from what BIO means), Milva and Renato dedicated their life to 6 hectares of land planted with Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto and they like to call themselves farmers, just like the 3 generations before them. During our walk we walked past Milva’s parents who were doing some work in the vineyards: pruning, rebuilding part of a vineyard, checking everything was in order after a windstorm. Hard work, physical work, for hours and hours every day: the sum of their age is 150 and they look amazing.
When the winery visit starts in the vineyard and the winemaker spends hours talking about farming, there is a good chance the wines will be phenomenal. They say great wine is made in the vineyard, right?
