Today is Festa della Repubblica in Italy: we celebrate the day when Italians voted to abolish the monarchy in 1946 so our country could become a republic. A very classic holiday, dense with historical meaning.

A lot changed in those years: WW2 was over, and the whole world was turning a very heavy page. It was right around that time when Bartolo (after some time as a partigiano) joined Giulio Mascarello in their cellar in Barolo, with the intent of following his father and grandfather’s footsteps.

We thought of celebrating with a bottle from one of the champions of tradition, a Bartolo Mascarello Barolo 2016.

Bartolo Mascarello wines are made in the old-fashioned way: no cru but multi-vineyards wines, no french barriques but large casks from Slavonia and a long, patient maceration instead of fast skin-extractions.

Their wines and their labels are today part of our heritage, the relationship they were able to establish with their vineyard and their winemaking approach a true symbol of great, extraordinary Italian wine culture.
